Abstract |
Perl has a lot of great tools for making programming fun. Emacs is a great tool for making programming fun. There are lots of snippets of code that you can cut-n-paste from blogs that kind of add some perl-releated feature to Emacs, and there is even a module that lets you program Emacs in Perl. But unfortunately, sometimes Emacs and Perl don't seem to get along that well. Emacs doesn't understand Perl projects. Emacs can't reload my REPL when I save a file. And Perl doesn't interactively edit my text! What to do? The answer: Stylish! Stylish provides a framework for integrating Perl and Emacs while letting Perl work with the Perl and Emacs work with you. In this talk, I'll show you how you can use Stylish, how you can extend Stylish, and how you can make Stylish work with Emacs. Along the way you'll learn about Emacs, Emacs Lisp, Moose, AnyEvent, Coro, and lots of other cool stuff. And then you can start writing Perl to make your Emacs experience even more enjoyable! |
