Perl has been the language of choice for a while (where "a while" = years unless decatedes). That's no longer right with the rise of other lightweight languages like (PHP|Python|Ruby|JavaScript|You name 'em). With so many other languages good enough to do what you have to do, what is the point of learning Perl? This talks explains exactly why.
